MADD was created in 1980 by Cindy Lightner, after the death of her 13 year old child who was killed by way of a drunk driver from bail for hit and run accident only 2 days early in the day. Lightner and other mothers who had lost children to drunk motorists formed MADD in an effort to stop the greater amount of than 30,000 liquor associated driving fatalities every year. They worked, not only to teach people in regards to the problems of driving while intoxicated, nevertheless to improve societal attitudes about drinking & driving.
