For years the most popular sites in the web have been actively restricting access to their content based on your own location. Generally this for a variety of reasons based around maximising profits, although they do it. It can get frustrating particularly when you travel around a bit. One minute you can be watching a show about the BBC iPlayer then discover yourself blocked as you are in the incorrect country.
