Short Ton Productions Produces Cues for Movies and Television

Writing music for sync in movies and television is a different skill, different than that of usual songwriting. Cues placed in TV often have specific requirements that composers need to be knowledgeable about. The song's words should not have any profanity, reference any specific people or places, and fit a variety of situations. This ensures that the music can be synced to more picture including television series, film, and advertisements. Any song that contains singing should additionally have an instrumental only recording available because often times, the lyrics detract from the footage. When rendering the no vocal recording, it can be smart to record the melody with an instrument. Cues should be edited to multiple lengths ranging from fifteen seconds to full-length. This allows the producer to work the music to the scene more easily. Additionally, not all compositions need to be the typical 3:30 length. Cues may be between 1:00-1:50. Songs work best if there is only one theme and no major change in tempo, key, or instrumentation. To get your music in TV, observe trends and what is currently being used. Make contact with music supervisors and music libraries and publishers who can help place your records. Use these tips, and most importantly keep on writing music and you'll be well on your way.
