In our work it is widely known what the fines are for using unlicensed audio tracks in our products. What many people may not realize is that copyright holders earn big money suing violators. So they are often searching for violators. It was not that long ago that someone filmed Tony Romo's wedding and used a Coldplay song without permission. Rumor has it that he got fined a very large dollar amount. I think they ended up settling out of court, if memory serves. It was enough to convince me to buy licensed music tracks for my work every time. It really is not too much either. I bought a pack of 100 tracks for less than thirty bucks recently.
