For years now the most famous sites in the internet have been actively restricting access to their content based on your own location. Generally this for a variety of reasons based around maximising gains, although they do it. It can get frustrating though particularly if you travel around a bit. One minute you can be seeing a series about the BBC iPlayer afterward discover yourself blocked since you're in the incorrect state. The US version of Netflix though it costs the same amount as all the other regional forms, has literally thousands more films and shows to appreciate.
